Who are the homeless?

They are women with children, runaway teens, vets, the addicted, the unemployed,
the chronically ill, the just-fired.

They’ve been homeless for years, or since yesterday.

The truth is, the homeless “community” is as diverse as any other. The “face” of homeless is many faces.

On Feb. 8, 2007, six writers spent the day at Homeless Connect, a first-time-ever Lane county, Oregon, event designed to provide as many services as
possible to homeless or at-risk people. There was medical and dental care, bike and wheelchair repair, veterinary care, help with housing and employment,
legal assistance, tax help, haircuts and hot food and drink. All services were free. The event was made possible by a coalition of 150
local nonprofits, public agencies and private businesses that teamed up to donate time, money, products and services.

More than 1,000 men, women and children attended.

These are a few of their stories.
