Listen Up

Writer as Activist

by Bill McKibben

Listen to writer and environmentalist Bill McKibben talk about his move to activism in a lecture called "Building the Climate Movement."

Author of ten books and frequent contributor to The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, Harper's and Mother Jones, McKibben wrote his first book in 1989 called The End of Nature, which is considered the first book for a general audience about climate change. His most recent book, Deep Economy: the Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future, was published in March 2007. In it, McKibben addresses the shortcomings of the growth-oriented economy of the United States and envisions a transition to a more local-scale enterprise.

McKibben was named University of Oregon’s 2007-8 Luther S. and Dorothy Cecilia Cressman Lecturer in the Humanities and spoke on campus in October.
